Bike Polo

Bike Polo World Championships. First stop Philadelphia.

Went down to Kensington this past weekend and watched the Hardcourt Bicycle Polo Championships. Montana a former employee of mine was one of the leading forces behind bringing this event to Philadelphia. I think he did a great job and kudos for stepping up for a first time event. Small events are not easy to organize and not loosing money is always hard. I hope it was a success for him and crew.

The games continued to get better and better as the tournament went on. The last 6 or so games were crazy and had great crowds. My personal highlight was when Seattle (the smiles team) beat NYC. The NYC team had a way about them that deserved to get beat. I have a long history with playing ice hockey and this game is very similar. The NYC team was like watching Mark Messier in the form of a bike polo team.

It is a rather rough sport and dominated by men. I know there is a woman's league but the woman teams at this event got eliminated kind of quick. I personally am to old and tired to think about playing but it was great spectating and glad it came to Philadelphia. Good job Monty!

Cheers,
Drew
